This section contains an article on the 716th while in Normandy. It was written by the division commander Lieutenant General Richter, as part of the Foreign Military Series, shortly after the war.

It has been translated from a rather poor photocopy of a microfiche printout. Although great care has been taken to make a faithful copy, it is likely there have been errors introduced.

The original document seems to have been written over time and dictated to several different clerks/translators. There are differences in wording, tense, abbreviations and style. There are several places where General Richter switches from the first person to the third person in references to his own actions.

The original document has some horrendous run on sentences. There are some strange grammatical constructs that must be due to poor translation from the original German. Some of the translations are hard to follow and need to be re-read to get the meaning.

I have introduced some possible corrections to the original text. These are written inside [square brackets].

The document is presented here in sections as the original is over 70 pages long. It is broken up into the numbered sections of the original. When the full document has been completed, I will post the entire text in pdf format.
